As this print was commissioned as an anniversary present, my tandem bike illustration seemed perfect for this week’s Illustration Friday topic ‘together’.
Traditionally, for your second wedding anniversary the theme is cotton, and so I was commissioned to create this tandem bike illustration which I screen printed on to cream cotton ready for stretching on to canvas.
I took a brief from my client, Katie, so that before I started I had a good idea of what she was looking for. Once I had completed the initial illustration, I provided her with three variations on the layout. Katie chose the typeface and the colours, and the words are lyrics from the song they danced to on their wedding day ♥ ♥ ♥
Once the illustration had been signed off, I emailed the artwork to the incredibly nifty Thermofax Screens and in less than a week my custom screen was delivered to my door. This is the first screen print I have done in my new home studio, and so I needed to set up a drying line, felt covered board and my artwork area before I began.
Thermofax Printing for printing images onto fabric, paper and other surfaces such as felt, leather and lutradur. With these easy-to-use screens you can create fabulous original cloth for use in art textiles, quilts, clothing, bags and home furnishings or exciting papers for use in mixed media art.
I really would recommend Thermofax Screens for all sorts of art and craft projects. I’d quite like to screen print my designs on to notebooks and they are equally as good printing onto paper and card as they are onto fabric. There are detailed instructions on how to use and take care of your screens, even down to setting up your workspace and ideas for experimentation!
